I found this Ennomos Subsignaria AKA The Elm Spanworm Moth struggling in raindrops on the roof of our car today. I couldn't leave her there, I had to help her! I carefully nudged her to my wrist and she graciously and thankfully crawled up onto my arm. She was so soft and gentle as her wings caught the breeze. We shared a couple minutes together, then moved closer to a nearby tree. I placed my wrist next to the tree and she crawled onto the trunk. She seemed very happy and safe. I'll think of her often because she was so beautiful and furry! Remember to help the little ones out there. A Journey of a Lifetime! We left Chicago in search of adventure, good times and a thrilling summer vacation. From the minute we stepped into the United Polaris lounge, we knew this would be a trip like no other. After sipping champagne, watching a few movies and catching some very cozy z's in business class, we arrived in Zürich, Switzerland. The immediate beauty of this magical land was undeniable as soon as we stepped off the plane. Lucious green mountains and immaculate baby blue skies greeted us as kindly as our Swiss Uber driver. It rained a lot in Zürich, but there were many great restaurants, shops and pubs to keep us warm and dry and luckily we packed an umbrella just in case. Stopping on bridges for photos proved to be one of our favorite photo ops! After two days we hopped on the the SBB CFF FFS train to Interlaken. As total newbs to the Swiss train system - or any train system outside the US for that matter - we were a little apprehensive. BUT the Zürich Main Train Station was very easy to manage, filled with signs in English and had many friendly people around to help. This train stop was a cinch! As we arrived in Interlaken, we knew we were in for an experience like we could never imagine. We felt like we were in the Lord of the Rings! It was so beautiful. Here we kayaked, cruised up to Harder Kulm and tried to go paragliding, but it was canceled due to fog, womp wah. We also visited Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald - both insanely beautiful. From there we left to Paris where we stuffed ourselves with croissants, coffee, steak frites and delicious wine. We saw the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, did some shopping and of course planned an entire day to visit Reims, the champagne region to do some tastings. Our hearts and our love lock will stay in France for eternity. Last stop: Amesterdam! Another great first class train ride to a beautiful city of canals. After checking into our hotel, we walked the streets and canals and stumbled upon the Carre Theatre. What luck! Thrilled, we grabbed our tickets just in time to catch a VERY interesting dance theatre version of Edward Scissorhands.. let's just say this was not the normal Edward Scissorhands story that we all know and love! HAHA Amsterdam was also filled bike tours, a lovely boat tour down the canals and of course gelato. We were so sad to leave, but we can't wait to go back! Danke veil, Au Revoir and Bis schpöter! 'Twas a EURO TRIP of a lifetime! Here's a little snippet from our bike tour in Amsterdam, 2024. We signed up for a historical bike tour around Amsterdam guided by a very funny and knowledgable local. We biked our way through the city, over bridges, around the museum district and through the beautiful Vondelpark, the largest and most-visited park within the city. Biking in Amsterdam is serious business and you've got to keep your eyes peeled! Using hand signals, stopping for pedestrians and manuevering around cars can be intimidating but you can pick up these skills fairly quickly. As someone who is not new to bike riding but VERY clumsy, I was happy to have a local pro show us the do and don'ts. If you find yourself in Amsterdam, you might want to sign up for a bike tour! It was a great way to see different parts of the city that we might not have discovered on our own, it was a fun history lesson and a great little exercise! Danke Vel for watching! As I watched tenacious picklers wack and strike their beloved pickle ball, running up and down the sweltering outdoor tennis courts, a little friend landed on my arm. Margined calligrapher, tiny and gentle, a sweet little hoverfly inspected my arm for food. A feathery soft tickle with every little footstep, incremental and miniscule and unnoticed if I were not mindfully present. A beautiful moment shared with a tender being.
